They did not separate, and the whole spacecraft began to tumble. At that point, Starship and Super Heavy were intended to separate, with Super Heavy splashing back down in the Gulf of Mexico and Starship continuing onward for a 90-minute flight. But less than 5 minutes after liftoff, something went wrong.
